Last night La Troupe Du Jour hosted the 4th Annual Saskatoon and Area Theatre Awards (SATA). It was a great night for Aboriginal theatre. Nominated in the Outstanding Playwriting category was Gordon First Nation's own Kenneth T. Williams for his script Gordon Winter. As well, Carol Greyeyes from Muskeg lake First Nation was nominated for Outstanding Performance (Female) for her work in Two Rooms by Mansel Robinson. The highlight of the evening was the recipient of the Henry Woolf Continuing Achievement award. Gordon Tootoosis from Poundmaker First Nation was awarded and honoured for all his achievements, successes and contributions to the arts in Saskatoon and beyond. Irene Tootoosis (pictured here) accepted the award on behalf of her late husband and delivered a powerful and heart-warming speech, including acknowledgement of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, of which Gordon is a founding member. Congratulations to all nominees and recipients!
