Mandate
The mandate of Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC) is to produce and present innovative cultural theatre experiences that engage and empower Aboriginal youth, artists and thereby the greater Saskatoon and Saskatchewan community.
Objectives
The objectives of SNTC reflect the intent and spirit of our organization:
- To embrace the knowledge and teachings of Cultural Leaders as the foundation of SNTC’s programming;
- To provide opportunities for primarily Aboriginal artists to create, develop and present their art forms to the public
- To promote positive images of Aboriginal people who are making valuable contributions to society through theatrical arts
Artistic Statement & Vision
The Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC) utilizes the performing arts to share culture, language and history in all aspects of Aboriginal theatre practice. This includes production, co-production and presentation to increase the involvement of Aboriginal talent in SNTC programming. The SNTC vision is to develop and maintain a working Aboriginal theatre community in Saskatchewan comprised of aspiring, emerging and established artists, while increasing multicultural understanding in the Saskatoon and Saskatchewan community.
Through professional and community theatre programming, with Aboriginal culture as a foundation, SNTC entertains, educates and empowers through presentation and performance based on Aboriginal worldviews. SNTC continues to provide a continuum of support, training, career opportunities and encouragement that bring people together to enjoy, learn and bridge social and cultural gaps. Elders, community organizations, communities, families and sector partners join us in growing the arts in Saskatchewan and across Canada, by increasing the number of Aboriginal people trained and gainfully employed in the theatre sector.
